Shift can be as early as 6am-2pm. Holidays and weekends as operationally needed.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and cooks soups, sauces, meats, fish, vegetables, salads, and convenience foods for patients and cafeteria.
- Removes food such as meats and vegetables from refrigerator and freezers according to amounts needed for each meal.
- Defrosts food following procedures.
- Prepares food for cooking and seasons it correctly.
- Prepares the right amount of food based upon production sheets and cafeteria usage.
- Uses a variety of kitchen utensils such as knives, food cutters, blenders, slicers, mixers, and grinders in a safe and efficient manner.
- Works in a neat, clean, and organized manner.
- Places food in appropriate cooking pans and cooks according to recipe, cooking in small batches.
- Observes and tastes food being cooked to assure good quality, testing by tasting, smelling, and piercing with a fork.
- Cooks food to correct temperature and takes food temperature during various stages of preparation.
- Follows infection control standards, wears hairnet and gloves.
- Utilizes leftovers appropriately and suggests menu or recipe changes to use food before spoiling.
- Utilizes separate cutting boards for poultry, meat, raw, and cooked food.
- Sets up hot food and serving tables, adjusting temperature in steam tables to appropriate settings.
- Sets up hot food at assembly line and ensures correct food temperatures.
- Serves food following portion control guidelines.
- Removes unused food from serving table and warmers, determining whether to discard or store food.
- Wraps, labels, and dates stored food.
- Handles late requests for food in a timely fashion.
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Cooking school training, preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years cooking experience in a hospital setting, required.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
