About The Job
General Summary of Position: Under general supervision performs stationary engineer work in the hospital power plant involving a variety of routine and fairly complex problems. To ensure all equipment and systems are properly operating for a maximum safety and comfortable environment.
Technical/Mechanical
- Operates, maintains, and performs preventative maintenance on technical equipment.
- Operates boilers, water chillers, pumps, air compressors, and generators to provide steam, electrical power, heat, and chilled water throughout the hospital.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on water/steam distribution systems and other boiler-associated systems.
- Interprets technical information related to equipment operation and maintenance.
- Maintains constant watch over dials, meters, and gauges to assure proper operation and to detect malfunctioning equipment.
- Records data in appropriate logs and operates boiler room EMS systems.
- Runs tests on boiler and cooling tower water and adjusts treatment dosage as needed.
- Maintains proper operation of pneumatic tube system.
- Makes quality improvement or cost containment recommendations and sees through approval and implementation stages.
Customer Service
- Consistently displays professionalism in dealings with customers, staff, and physicians.
- Promptly answers customer and staff requests.
- Approaches, greets, and offers assistance and direction to patients, family members, physicians, and others who may need help in finding their way.
Development
- Participates with supervisors in identifying learning needs.
- When learning needs are identified, participates in training and development activities.
- Attends hospital-sponsored training programs as required by the department.
- Completes all mandatory requirements within allotted timeframe for completion.
Organizational Knowledge
- Works effectively within and between departments.
- Participates in departmental projects.
- Participates in interdepartmental activities when asked.
- Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.
Minimal Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; equivalent work experience in lieu of education may be considered.
- Experience: 1-2 years for entry level, 2-3 years of experience as first-class engineer required; previous experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications: Maryland First Class Stationary Engineer License required.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to communicate with all levels of internal and external customers; knowledge of building equipment and systems techniques and codes; knowledge of regulatory requirements including all State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.
