Firmware Validation Engineer - Brake & Steering
HireArt is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company find a Firmware Validation Engineer to support the development, validation, and release of brake and steering control firmware in partnership with Tier 1 suppliers.
About the role
In this role, you'll manage subsystem requirements, coordinate firmware validation and regression testing, and drive firmware issues through resolution to meet critical engineering milestones. You'll work closely with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure brake and steering control systems meet performance, quality, and release requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong background in automotive controls and validation, with hands-on experience troubleshooting complex hardware, software, and firmware issues. You are highly collaborative, technically driven, and comfortable working with suppliers and engineering teams to drive issues through resolution.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain brake and steering subsystem technical specifications in collaboration with suppliers and internal engineering teams.
- Partner with suppliers to develop and adapt validation plans, execute regression testing, and ensure firmware changes meet program and release milestones.
- Lead firmware defect resolution and impact assessments, working across architecture and systems engineering teams to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Develop and support diagnostic scripts and tools used for system testing and validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional experts across mechatronics, robotics, computer vision, and AI to support system integration and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline
- 6+ years of experience in the automotive or a similar industry
- Experience debugging complex, ambiguous issues involving hardware, software, and firmware
- Experience with automotive actuator controls and validation methodologies
- Experience implementing test methodologies and developing or operating HIL test assets
- Knowledge of automotive program development, firmware release processes, and long-term schedule planning
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier developing brake or steering controls
- Experience with CANalyzer, dSPACE, Polarion, Jira, or Confluence

This is a full-time, ongoing contract position. It will be onsite and available to candidates who are local to the Foster City, CA area.
