About the role
This full-time, on-site role in San Jose, CA involves designing, developing, and maintaining embedded firmware for hardware platforms, with a focus on ARM-based systems. The Firmware Engineer will implement and optimize low-level software, integrate firmware with electrical components, and ensure reliable system performance.
Day-to-day tasks include writing and reviewing embedded code, performing systematic debugging and root-cause analysis, and collaborating with electrical and software teams to define requirements and verify hardware-software integration. The role also involves creating technical documentation, participating in design reviews, and supporting testing and validation activities to ensure product quality and compliance with engineering standards.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for ARM-based hardware platforms.
- Implement and optimize low-level software for reliable system performance.
- Integrate firmware with electrical components and verify hardware-software integration.
- Write and review embedded code in C/C++.
- Perform systematic debugging and root-cause analysis using tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit debuggers.
- Collaborate with electrical and software teams to define requirements.
- Create technical documentation for firmware designs and test results.
- Participate in design reviews and support testing and validation activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong skills in embedded software and firmware design for microcontrollers or SoCs.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for firmware development.
- Solid knowledge of ARM architecture and related toolchains, including low-level drivers, interrupts, and real-time execution.
- Hands-on debugging experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, in-circuit debuggers, and software debugging tools.
- Foundational understanding of electrical engineering, including schematics and interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART).
- Experience with hardware bring-up and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to work on-site in San Jose, CA, and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Clear communication skills in both technical and non-technical contexts.
