Owning content quality
The executive editor will set and manage quality standards for Deloitte's top-tier research and insights to ensure the insights' accuracy, clarity, appeal, and perceived value for target audiences.
Training, overseeing, and performance-managing editors
The executive editor will train, oversee, and performance-manage editors on the implementation of quality standards across all publishing projects. They will serve as the second set of eyes on Deloitte Insights content, working closely with editors, authors, and subject matter experts to ensure that thought leadership content meets Deloitte Insights' quality criteria.
Leading and developing editorial talent
The executive editor will lead the continued development, training, and management of Deloitte Insights' copyediting function, focusing on ensuring research and insights projects' accuracy via fact-checking; data accuracy; precision of phrasing; sourcing and substantiation; copy optimization; terminology accuracy, consistency, and appropriateness; and grammar, punctuation, copy cleanliness, and AP style.
Managing editorial team members
The executive editor will guide editors on how best to collaborate with authors as trusted advisors, helping them sharpen ideas, frame arguments, and make stronger content and format decisions. They will lead continuous process improvement for editorial systems and workflows to improve team collaboration and the quality and efficiency of the work, including identifying and testing new ways of working, and determining appropriate ways to integrate new tech/AI solutions for efficiency and quality assurance.
Promoting and modeling responsible AI use
The executive editor will promote and model responsible use of AI, ensuring that humans lead original thought creation, analysis, writing, editing, fact-checking, and final publication decisions in line with firm policies.
Advising authors and stakeholders
The executive editor will coach Deloitte content creators on language usage, writing style, and storytelling effectiveness. They will lead special publishing programs and projects, such as the editorial agenda and quality standards for the Deloitte Insights video program.
Staying up to date on storytelling trends, audience engagement best practices, and multichannel publishing innovations
The executive editor will advise on continuous improvement for Deloitte Insights, ensuring that the content continuously improves through staying informed on storytelling trends, audience engagement best practices, and multichannel publishing innovations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in business journalism editing or business insights/thought leadership editing within an organization/association
- Bachelor's degree (preferably in English literature, journalism, communications, or similar)
- Exceptional editing skills, a mastery of both conversational phrasing and AP style, and the ability to explain/"sell" edits to authors in a collegial way
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills; proven ability to translate complex concepts into easily digestible terms; proven ability to communicate sophisticated insights to expert professional audiences of executives
- Extensive team leadership experience and excellent performance management skills
- Excellent stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, including the confidence to interact with and influence personnel at all levels, as well as listening skills, responsiveness, flexibility, initiative, decision-making, conflict resolution, and tact
- Ability to serve as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, explaining editorial recommendations clearly, persuasively, and diplomatically to authors, editors, business leaders, and senior executives
- Experience creating multimedia content, including contributing storytelling guidance and quality oversight to video post-production projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, content management systems, and workflow and collaboration tools such as Workfront, Microsoft Teams, etc.; knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to manage multiple projects with quick turnaround times simultaneously
- Ability to work independently, as well as with a larger, multifunctional team
- Ability to travel 0-15%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
