Responsibilities
- Responds to emergency medical calls and fire alarms.
- Extinguishes fires using hoses, pumps, and other extinguishing agents.
- Places hoses and ladders in proper positions, climbs ladders, and operates pumps.
- Ventilates structures by opening windows and cutting holes.
- Operates aerial ladders, fire extinguishers, and other hand tools.
- Works inside, outside, or on top of burning and smoke-filled structures.
- Rescues persons trapped in burning buildings.
- Takes appropriate measures to protect and preserve lives and property.
- Administers emergency medical care and CPR.
- Conducts salvage operations, cleans and maintains equipment, and performs general maintenance.
- Attends training sessions and maintains/improves rescue, firefighting/emergency medical skills.
- Counsels school children and promotes fire prevention and safety.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Firefighter II (240 CARD) and Paramedic Certification.
- Currently in the OP&F or OPERS pension system.
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the job.
- Availability to work shift assignments.
Qualifications
- An appropriate combination of education, training, course work, and experience may qualify an applicant for the position.
Skills
- Knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical skills.
- Ability to learn technical firefighting and emergency rescue/emergency medical principles and techniques.
- Physical strength and endurance to perform strenuous tasks under hazardous conditions.
- Sound and prompt judgment in emergency situations.
