About the Role

Under the direction of the Fire Lieutenant or above, the Vallen Firefighter performs a wide variety of administrative and technical tasks in support of fire suppression, fire prevention, hazardous materials, emergency medical, and other emergency services. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing life safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, hoses, monitors, and respirators (SCBA), as well as providing appropriate documentation for testing and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents, including fire suppression, search and rescue, and emergency medical services; prepare incident reports as assigned.
• Subject to recall for fire or incident response, including critical events such as storms, natural disasters, or other emergencies outside regular scheduled hours.
• Participate in fire prevention operations, training, fire investigations, equipment maintenance, and hazardous materials response.
• Identify, isolate, and contain hazardous materials safely and effectively.
• Maintain fire station, equipment, and apparatus to ensure operational readiness.
• Respond to hazardous materials incidents.
• Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance of emergency response equipment and installed life safety systems in accordance with Vallen and customer SOPs.
• Maintain emergency vehicle equipment logs and track EMS supplies and inventory.
• Report inventory supply levels to the Fire Lieutenant.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or 6+ years of applicable direct experience with 5+ current certifications (manufacturer/state) in fire protection or a related field.
• Required certifications/experience:
  • Firefighter I, IFSAC/ProBoard, or NFPA 1081 equivalent
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) with CPR & AED
  • Hazardous Materials Technician
  • Rope Rescue Training
  • Confined Space Training
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
• May require continuing education to maintain certifications and licenses.
• May require travel with limited advance notice.
• Ability to work long and varied hours, including in extreme hot or cold environments, indoors and/or outdoors, and in dusty or hazardous conditions.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and walk.
• Ability to walk at a regular pace for up to 15 continuous minutes and stand for 8–10 hours.
• Must be able to bend, climb, and stoop for equipment access and repairs.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
• Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 feet high and ascend/descend ladders up to 24 feet high.
• Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
