Recruits attend the Gresham Fire Academy, which runs on a 40‑hour work week; after graduation they are assigned to shift schedules. Living and working in the area offers access to rivers, mountains, forests, ocean beaches and urban centers. The department emphasizes ongoing training, career development, and a collaborative, team‑oriented environment. Leadership includes a fire chief, an assistant chief, five battalion chiefs (one serving as fire marshal), administrative staff, fire and life safety personnel, training staff and emergency operations staff. The position is represented by IAFF Local 1062. Gresham values equity, inclusion and a diverse workforce, seeking candidates who will contribute to an inclusive workplace and equitable outcomes.
