Description
If you are a current firefighter-paramedic, apply to the Firefighter-Paramedic position. If you are a paramedic but haven't attended the fire academy, apply to the Paramedic to Firefighter position. All candidates will start as a FF/EMT.
Representative Job Duties
- Effectively respond to fire, rescue, first aid, and related emergencies.
- Participate in daily drills, protecting life and property.
- Maintain equipment, apparatus, and buildings.
- Perform fire safety surveys and pre-plans.
- Perform routine housekeeping of fire station facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Participate in training activities.
- Other work as assigned.
Job Requirements
- U.S. citizen; 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- State of Michigan Firefighter I & II Certification upon establishment of the Eligibility List.
- Currently employed as a sworn Fire Fighter in "good standing" or separated from service with a "good standing" at the time of separation.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.
- Valid Michigan driver's license and a good driving record.
- No felony convictions and no record of serious misdemeanor convictions.

- The selection process includes completing a City of Southfield application packet, a review of qualifications, driving record and criminal history check, a written examination, and an oral board interview.
- Selected candidates will undergo an extensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, and physical exam before employment.
