About the role
Participates in squad meetings: receive assignments; receive new policies, procedural changes, case laws, court decisions, zone patrols, etc.; subject to inspection for adherence to departmental rules and regulations and dress code.
Ensures properly equipped with all equipment needed to carry out job duties; personally inspects weapons in order to ensure that weapons are clean and functioning properly; inspects vehicles and other equipment to ensure safe and proper operation; subject to inspection of same per the chain of command.
Responsibilities
- Performs law enforcement patrol activities including, but not necessarily limited to, teletype checks of property or person; records checks on firearms, stolen equipment or wanted/stolen vehicles; assessments of driver's operational capacities; felony stops; searches for missing, lost or wanted persons.
- Initiates enforcement actions including, but not necessarily limited to, separation of persons involved in domestic disputes; dwelling, building or grounds inspections; vehicle pursuits; detainment of suspect vehicle drivers; alarm responses; arrests; searches of persons, places and property; riot control; subdues resisting offenders using force where appropriate up to and including deadly force.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- At least 21 years old at the time of testing
- United States Citizen
- Mandatory participation and successful performance in training academy resulting in State Certified POST Peace Officer
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License
- Honorable discharge (with copy of DD-214) from any prior military service
Qualifications
- Successful completion of in-depth background investigation which includes but is not limited to; employment background, credit, driving and criminal records, and substance abuse.
- Successful completion of a polygraph examination.
- Successful completion of a physical/medical examination by a County appointed physician.
- Successful completion of a psychological examination by a County appointed psychologist.
- Successful completion of a physical agility test.
- Successful completion of oral interviews.
- Successful completion of an 18-month on-the-job working test period.
