Fire Suppression Technician

About the role
The Fire Suppression Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, service, and repair of fire extinguishers and pre-engineered suppression systems.
Responsibilities
- Use required tools and test equipment (e.g., power machine groovers, cutters, band saws, lifts) to repair or replace fire extinguishers and pre-engineered systems.
- Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of NFPA codes, standards, and systems, including all types of fire extinguishers, pre-engineered suppression systems, and fire alarm & security systems.
- Troubleshoot and identify defective components of pre-engineered suppression systems.
- Repair or replace damaged components of pre-engineered suppression systems and fire extinguishers.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
- Be punctual and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
- Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, and complete documentation.
- Follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication Program, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in weekly Toolbox talks and know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
- Maintain company-provided vehicle in clean and well-maintained condition as required by company policies.
- Attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
- Train service technician trainees in all applicable aspects of the role.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- State or other required certification (preferred).
- 2+ years of industry experience specifically within Fire Suppression.
- 2+ years of professional computer skills.
- Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol Policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.
- Ability to travel 20% of the time (possible overnight stays).
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Frequently bend, ascend/descend step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneel; lift up to 50 lbs.; reach above and below shoulders; stand and walk for extended periods.
- Required to see in color, at close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus.
- Occasionally balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift over 50 lbs., sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
- Regularly work outside and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
- Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, alone, or with others.
- Consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies.
