System Design & layout
Create CAD design drawings and perform hydraulic calculations.
Regulatory Compliance
Interpret and apply Texas Department of Insurance (.gov) rules, NFPA, IFC, IBC, and local codes.
Project Oversight
- Review shop drawings
- Coordinate material lists
- Manage project costs
- Maintain delivery deadlines
Field Supervision
- Supervise field installations
- Oversee system testing
- Sign off on contractor's material and test certificates
Team Leadership
- Mentor junior sprinkler designers
- Coordinate with contractors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
Material Buyout and Product Selection
- Organize and manage all the elements involved in construction
- Track, forecast, and communicate all costs, profits, and financial measures of the project
Scheduling and Labor Coordination
- Work with both office and field personnel alike
Document Control
- Document control
- Contract scope review
- Maintain records of the project for both current and future use
Communication and Meetings
- Communicate and attend weekly design and project management meetings
Cost Management
- Identify changes to the project scope that impact costs
- Ensure change orders and billings are submitted and paid in a timely manner
Risk Hazard Analysis
- Conduct Risk Hazard Analyses
Site Surveys, Onsite Commissioning, and Owner Training
- Conduct site surveys
- Onsite commissioning
- Owners training
Customer Relationships
- Foster strong working relationships and rapport with customers, clients, subcontractors and colleagues
Education & Qualifications
- Must hold an active Texas RME-General license issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
- NICET Level III or IV certification in Fire Protection Engineering Technology / Automatic Sprinkler System Layout preferred.
- Strong expertise in AutoCAD and specialized layout software like HydraCAD, AutoSprink, and AutoCAD preferred.
- At least 5 years of job design and project management experience required.
- Education in Construction Management, Engineering or other applicable degree from a technical school or college preferred.
- Working knowledge of fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems preferred, but not required.
- NICET Water Based System I, II, or III preferred.
