About the role

The Fire Sprinkler Foreman installs sprinkler heads, valves, steel, and CPVC pipe in newly constructed and renovated structures with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Cut, fabricate, and install steel and CPVC pipe as designed for fire sprinkler systems.
  • Install and hang pipe, sprinkler heads, fittings, hangers, and other fire protection components in accordance with blueprints and construction documents.
  • Install and trim valves for wet, dry, and pre-action fire protection systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents to ensure the sprinkler system is constructed as designed.
  • Ensure all project close-out documents are turned in, including test papers, red-line drawings, owner’s training, and signed extra work orders.
  • Attend job meetings and coordinate schedules with general contractors and other trades.
  • Ensure project timelines are met and required documentation is submitted on time to complete projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Report scheduling delays, personnel issues, and safety concerns to your direct supervisor.
  • Coordinate and manage assigned projects with the superintendent, general contractor, and crew.
  • Ensure professional communication between the assigned crew, vendors, and contractors.
  • Complete daily progress reports, noting accidents, design changes due to field conditions, proposed scope changes, and conflicts with existing conditions.
  • Order and ensure all materials are on-site as required; layout or store materials safely and orderly in designated locations.
  • Maintain company-provided vehicle in clean and well-maintained condition according to company policies.
  • Keep all work areas clean, safe, and orderly during and at the end of the workday.
  • Clean, inspect, and service required tools in accordance with company policies.
  • Secure and account for all tools, equipment, and supplies on the job site daily.
  • Report daily to the superintendent or general contractor on progress and job-related problems.
  • Train Sprinkler Fitters and Sprinkler Apprentices on all aspects of their job.
  • Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication program, policies, and procedures; participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
  • Know the location of all related safety documentation on each project at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years’ experience installing fire sprinkler systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • NICET Certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.

  • Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Customer service, decision-making, multitasking, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Troubleshooting and training abilities.
  • Effective reading, writing, and communication in English with employees and customers.
  • Ability to operate a computer and tablet, and read electronic blueprints.
  • Experience with SalesForce and Microsoft Office preferred.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Frequent bending, ascending/descending step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneeling; lifting up to 50 lbs; reaching above and below shoulders; standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Color vision, close and far distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional balancing, crouching, driving, kneeling, lifting over 50 lbs, sitting, stooping, twisting, and working at heights.
  • Frequent local travel and occasional regional or non-regional travel.
  • Frequent exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes, odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, moving machinery, and uneven or slippery surfaces.
  • Consistent use of all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies.
