Fire Sprinkler Designer
Job Overview
Jensen Hughes is seeking experienced Sprinkler Design Consultants with a strong background in water-based fire suppression systems. This role will support a fast-paced project through consulting, design, review, and field oversight activities at a large semiconductor facility in North Phoenix. The position requires technical depth, sound judgment, and the ability to interface effectively with clients.
Key Responsibilities
Lead or support the design and layout of automatic fire sprinkler systems for a variety of facility types in accordance with NFPA standards, local codes, and project requirements
Generate fire suppression specifications for water-based fire protection systems
Perform or review hydraulic calculations, material take-offs, and system sizing, including fire pumps and controllers
Review, evaluate, and prepare sprinkler, fire pump, and/or special suppression system shop drawing submittal packages
Act as the owner’s representative for fire protection systems during design, construction, and commissioning phases
Conduct field surveys, inspections, and regular site walks to verify installation quality, fire safety, and code compliance
Support testing, commissioning, system acceptance, and emergent site needs, including witnessing tests and providing code interpretations
Cookordinate with AHJs to support permitting, reviews, and project approvals
Provide technical consulting and guidance to clients, project managers, contractors, architects, and engineers
Plan, direct, or execute fire protection–related engineering activities with a high level of contractor engagement
Assess, review, and approve contractor bids, change orders, and work costs related to fire protection systems
Prepare, present, and deliver clear, technically sound reports and recommendations to clients
Quality, Compliance, and Leadership
Support companywide QA/QC reviews to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards
Mentor and support the professional development of junior designers, engineers, and consultants, as appropriate to level
Minimum Requirements
Five (5) or more years of experience in fire protection system design or consulting, with emphasis on automatic sprinkler systems and fire pump design
Proficiency with industry-standard design and calculation tools such as AutoCAD, REVIT, HydraCAD, SprinkCAD, or similar software
Preferred Qualifications
Strong working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 13, 14, 20, and/or 25.
NICET Water-Based Systems Layout Certification preferred; NICET Level II or higher strongly preferred
Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes, life safety standards, and local jurisdictional requirements
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including strong technical report writing
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting client and schedule commitments
Additional Considerations
Candidates with significant industry experience in fire protection design, inspection, or code consulting are desired.

Relocation will be offered to individuals with the right experience who are interested in permanent relocation or a short-term relocation (2 year commitment).
