Fire Safety Inspector

Responsibilities

• Perform Fire Safety Inspections
• Maintain Monitoring of Special Events and Special Projects
• Tent Permit Process Support
• Support DSS and Fire Safety Division Mission
• Assist with Fire Safety Training
• Interact with Local and State Officials

• Fire Inspector Certification (Virginia 1031)

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Experience: At Least One Year of Relevant Experience Required
• Valid Unrestricted Driver’s License, with Ability to Obtain a Virginia Driver’s License Within 90 Days of Employment
• Bachelor's Degree Preferred
• Five or More Years of Fire Safety Experience, Including Training in Fire Codes, Fire and Fire Safety Related Projects
• Fire Inspector Certification and/or HCD Core Class Preferred
• Proficient Computer Skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Email and Use of Internet for Research
• Demonstrate Skills and/or Have Prior Experience That Would Be Beneficial and Enhance the Office of Fire Safety & Prevention
• Demonstrated Ability to Work Effectively with a Broad Range of Individuals and Groups, with Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills and the Ability to Clearly Present Information to a Variety of University Audiences
• Possess a Flexible, Self-Starter Mindset, and Demonstrate Decision Making and Problem Solving Abilities

Physical Demands

• Required to Perform Duties in All Locations Across Grounds and the Medical Center
• Includes Sitting, Standing, Traveling or Driving for Extended Periods of Time
• Required to Do Moderate-Heavy Lifting, Including Lifting 50 lbs.

Pay

Salary Range: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Position Type & Work Location

• This is a Non-Exempt-Level, Benefited Position
• Based in Charlottesville, VA, and Must Be Performed Fully On-Site
