Fire Protection System Designer

About the role

Vulcan Fire Protection Services Inc. is seeking an in-house Fire Protection Designer to develop and maintain accurate system designs using BIM and CAD software. This position will work closely with our field and project teams to create practical, code-compliant fire protection system layouts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically minded, and interested in developing practical fire protection designs that translate effectively from the computer to the field.

Responsibilities

• Design and layout of Fire Sprinkler systems
• Read, analyze, and interpret contract documents, including all disciplines of construction drawings and specifications
• Write, plan, coordinate, and make presentations to individuals and groups
• Work with and comprehend mathematical concepts including hydraulic calculations and project cost analysis
• Develop positive and ongoing relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction
• Provide fire sprinkler designs with AutoCAD, HydraCAD, AutoSprink, and Revit
• Responsible for BIM modeling and field surveying
• Provide lists for fabrication and coordinate between the trades
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or business discipline preferred or equivalent experience (e.g., Architectural, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management Degrees)
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and mathematical aptitude, with heavy attention to detail
• Good working knowledge of hydraulic calculations and ability to read and understand blueprints
• Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities under time constraints
• Flexible to be available as needed to travel to client sites
• NICET Level 3 Certification required
