About the Role

Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a Service Technician II focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. In this position, you will install and/or inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting service calls.
  • Systems testing and inspections to the prescribed standards.
  • Performing on-site emergency troubleshooting and maintaining of customer's Life Safety Systems.
  • Identifying code issues and discrepancies.
  • Preparing accurate, timely Technician worksheets (TWS) and reports.
  • Installing Life Safety Systems.
  • Providing customer service in the area of installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems, including but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems, and Water Based Systems.
  • Providing the testing and repair documentation and ensuring it is filled out accurately, completely, and turned in for proper invoicing.
  • Ensuring the customer has all required copies of all required documentation upon servicing equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to assigned duties, i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
  • Exhibiting safe work practices at all times.
  • Assisting in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and distributing to sales associates for processing.
  • Using company-provided assets such as but not limited to: Company Vehicle, Inventory, Safety Equipment, Laptop, BR Scanner, Test Equipment, Tools, Radio, Cell Phone, Fuel Card, and/or Credit Card.
  • Maintaining proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies.
  • Assisting warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
  • Keeping all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 Certification (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection related field.
  • Fire Alarm & Ext A with 1-3 years of experience or WBS Construction with 1-3 years of experience.
  • RME-I (if applicable).
  • Mechanically inclined with strong communication skills.
  • Specific, relevant experience in the installation and/or maintenance, repair, and service of life safety systems and equipment.
  • Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
  • Maintain minimum productivity of 90% within 60 days.
  • Current Motor Vehicle License with a good driving record.
  • Commercial Driver's License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
  • Proficient with hand tools.
  • Able to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Able to provide assistance, advice, and training to Vallen associates and plant personnel.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English (operational, process, and quality instructions).
  • Must pass Drug & Alcohol screen, Physical exam, and background check.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Working conditions will vary with service work being performed indoors and out in the field.
  • Possibility of working in hazardous environments when working within a plant, requiring safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
  • Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing a maximum of 55 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
  • Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
  • Able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
  • Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access to equipment for repair and service.
  • Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
