Provide technical and programmatic fire protection, life safety, and occupational safety and health (OSH) support to Federal clients.

About the role

  • Provide fire protection engineering, life safety, and building and fire code compliance advisory services to architects, developers, owners, and government clients.
  • Review and analyze proposed fire protection and life safety (FP/LS) equipment and design changes to determine compliance with fire and life safety codes and criteria.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and representative of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in development of Statements of Work (SOWs) and design and construction proposals, ensuring contract requirements are met.
  • Develop performance-based design analyses using fire protection engineering principles, code analyses, and advisement with AHJ.
  • Conduct engineering reviews of shop drawings, construction oversight and inspection, field surveys, and systems acceptance testing for life safety systems, including fire suppression, fire detection, and emergency signaling systems.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide progress oversight, coordinate prioritization of work, and recommend resolutions for issues encountered during implementation of life safety system designs.
  • Evaluate existing building and life safety system conditions through code compliance, life safety, and fire hazards analysis surveys.
  • Develop technical reports detailing fire prevention and protection issues, including compliance gaps, applicable code revisions, remedial work, and procedural deficiencies.
  • Review fire protection engineering deliverables developed by junior engineers and provide feedback, mentoring, and training.

Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in fire protection engineering.
  • Experience in healthcare settings.
  • Experience applying Fire Protection and Life Safety requirements to design reviews of new and updated facilities, systems, and equipment.
  • Experience with on-site audits and assessments for compliance and generation of associated reports.
  • Experience with FP/LS codes applicable to healthcare facilities, including NFPA 99 and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, or facilities standards such as UFC 3-600-01 or UFC 3-601-02.
  • Experience with Federal government agencies such as EPA, VHA, DoD, and FAA.
  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and FP/LS building codes, regulations, and standards, including The Joint Commission requirements.
  • Knowledge of fire protection codes and standards, including NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 13, NFPA 25, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 75, and NFPA 90A.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.

Nice to have

  • Experience with OSH regulatory and consensus standards such as 29 CFR 1910, 1926, 1960, NFPA 70, 70E, and 101, and enterprise-level OSH policies and guidance.
  • Experience with fire suppression and detection systems design.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification.
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) Certification.

Pay

Salary is determined by various factors, including location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD).

Work model expectations:

  • Remote: Primarily remote, with occasional in-person work at a Booz Allen or customer facility.
  • Hybrid: Frequent work from a Booz Allen facility, with potential visits to customer facilities as required by the role.
  • Onsite: Work primarily performed at a Booz Allen office or customer facility, with direct collaboration as required.

Employees working virtually are generally expected to have their cameras on during meetings to support engagement and effective communication.
