About the role
You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION ENGINEER in the Emergency Manager Branch (Code 106AX), of the Emergency Management Division (Code 106A), in the Occupational Safety Health & Environmental Department (Code 106), of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.

Responsibilities
- Primary technical point of contact for all matters regarding industrial fire safety, identification, evaluation, and mitigation of associated risks.
- Provide technical expertise on electrical, electronic, mechanical, and other engineering principles related to fire prevention, fire safety, and fire protection.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety technical requirements of NAVSEA Technical Publication S0570-AC-CCM-010/8010, Industrial Ship Safety Manual for Fire Prevention and Response.
- Promote and maintain a cooperative and team-oriented environment by leading and guiding others in formulating and executing team plans.
- Conduct accident investigations and inspections or reviews of shipboard conditions, plans, and equipment.
- Perform special engineering analysis and studies in support of NAVSEA for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, procedures, material, practices, etc.
Qualifications
- At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector, demonstrating:
- Experience applying fire protection engineering theories to identify and mitigate fire hazards associated with industrial operations, such as ship maintenance and repair.
- Experience reviewing engineering designs, technical work documents, and test plans to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and standards (e.g., NAVSEA, OSHA, NFPA).
- Experience participating in the analysis and evaluation of active and passive fire protection systems, such as fire detection/alarm systems, fire suppression systems, and fire-resistant barriers.
- Experience conducting facility or shipboard inspections to identify fire safety deficiencies and recommending corrective actions.
- Experience assisting in investigations of fire-related incidents to help determine root causes and contributing factors.
Education
- Professional engineering degree from a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- Successfully completed courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
- Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
