About the role
The Fire Protection Design Manager will provide general supervision of all design/BIM aspects of new construction sprinkler projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee project management duties for each project and delegate tasks as needed
- Review design drawings for compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications
- Review material submittals for compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications
- Review hydraulic calculations for compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications
- Review and procure all material stock lists for construction projects
- Coordinate material delivery with customers and field superintendents
- Supervise designers’ tasks and schedules
- Review designer drawings to ensure compliance with department standards
- Monitor design hours for profitability and efficiency
- Supervise field measuring process with designers
- Participate in regularly scheduled department meetings to review project progress and future needs
- Assist the fire protection sales team with bid take-offs as needed
- Coordinate and resolve design conflicts with field superintendents
- Conduct job "kick-off" meetings for superintendents and field crews
- Coordinate regular fire protection department meetings
- Review and approve vendor material invoices for construction
- Coordinate the permit process with local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
- Coordinate and review the shop drawing process with architects/engineers
- Maintain a "design" file for each construction project
- Coordinate with fire protection service staff for small/day work projects
- Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in fire protection design and/or equivalent vocational training
- Prior supervisory or management experience
- NICET Level II certification (preferred but not required)
- Understanding of NFPA and local authority jurisdiction requirements
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in Windows-based CAD, AutoCAD, or other fire protection design software
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and spatial orientation skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detail
- Strong negotiation and problem-resolution skills
- Ability to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, and follow written/oral instructions
- Must be available to work assigned schedule

Work Environment
- Primarily works in a professional office environment using standard office equipment
- May require visits to construction sites
- Routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand tools, and power tools
- Travel may be required (typically not overnight)
