$10,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates. Up to $10,000 relocation assistance for relocating to the Richmond, VA area. Initial work-from-home flexibility offered, but eventual relocation to Richmond, VA and work from ACI’s headquarters required.

About the role

ACI is seeking a dynamic, motivated Fire Protection Design Manager to join our expanding team. This role is based at our headquarters in Richmond, VA; relocation assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

  • General supervision of all design/BIM aspects of new construction sprinkler projects
  • Project management duties for each project and/or delegation to appropriate team members
  • Review design drawings, material submittals, and hydraulic calculations for compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications
  • Review and procure all material stock lists for construction projects
  • Coordinate material delivery with customers and field superintendents
  • Supervise designers’ tasks, schedules, and adherence to department standards
  • Monitor design hours for profitability and efficiency
  • Supervise field measuring process with designers
  • Participate in regularly scheduled department meetings to review progress on current and future projects
  • Assist FP sales team with bid take-offs as needed
  • Coordinate and resolve design conflicts with field superintendents
  • Conduct job “kick-off” meetings for superintendents and field crews
  • Coordinate regular FP department meetings
  • Review and approve vendor material invoices for construction
  • Coordinate permit process with local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)
  • Coordinate and review shop drawing process with A/E
  • Maintain “design” file for each construction project
  • Coordinate with FP service staff for small/day work projects
  • Ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience in fire protection design and/or equivalent vocational training
  • Prior supervisor/management experience
  • Understanding of NFPA and local authorities’ jurisdiction requirements
  • Ability to interpret architect drawings/specifications
  • Proficient in Windows-based CAD, AutoCAD design software, or other fire protection design software
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and spatial orientation skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, MS Word, and Excel
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detail
  • Strong negotiation and problem-resolution skills
  • Ability to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must be available to work assigned schedule

Qualifications

  • NICET Level II certification (preferred but not required)
  • Prior military experience (preferred)

Work Environment

  • Primarily works in a professional office environment using standard office equipment
  • May require visits to construction sites
  • Routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand, and power tools
  • Travel may be required (typically not overnight)
