Fire Prevention & Safety Officer - I or II
About the role
Incumbents are assigned responsibilities, involving the inspection of buildings and grounds for elimination of fire hazards, enforcement of laws, rules and regulations and providing security at Griffin Memorial Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Patrolling assigned premises to identify and correct fire hazards
- Providing assistance to employees or visitors
- Directing traffic
- Performing other duties related to the protection of state property, employees, visitors and others
Requirements
Level I: No requisite education and experience are required for consideration.
Level II: Completion of a basic security and/or firefighter's course, and 2 years of experience in security or fire prevention and protection work
Qualifications
Upon a conditional offer of employment, applicants must submit to a physical examination and meet the physical examination requirements of lifting/carrying 60 pounds occasionally, and able to push and pull a maximum force of 30 pounds. Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill any job‑related travel normally associated with this position and as such have a valid driver’s license.

Pay
Level I: $14.18 per hour
Level II: $15.14 per hour
Schedule
Full‑time shift position with two openings:
- Opening 1: 6:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Opening 2: 1:00 pm to 11:30 pm
The agency requires 24‑hour, 7‑day coverage; work hours and location may vary depending on business necessity, and employees may be required to work weekends and overtime.
