Fire Investigator - Part Time

We have an exciting and highly rewarding part-time Fire & Explosion Investigator opportunity in the Los Angeles area. Responsibilities

• Investigates and analyzes the origin and cause of fire and explosion events within residential, commercial, and industrial sites per NFPA 921 and 1033.
• Collects evidence and documents scenes per NFPA 921 and 1033, including photographing/recording incident sites, preserving equipment/components, and storing evidence for further evaluation.
• Interviews witnesses (owners, occupants, tenants), canvasses neighborhoods to identify additional witnesses, and records statements; interviews responding fire service personnel and local officials regarding their actions.
• Identifies, documents, and analyzes compliance with applicable codes for installed fire suppression and detection systems.
• Researches failure modes and code requirements; prepares recommendations for stakeholders.
• Prepares accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining the cause and origin of damages to clients, adhering to established policies and client standards.
• Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams on large and complex assignments, contributing as an effective team member and assisting colleagues as needed.
• Maintains relationships with current clients and consultants.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a fire investigator, with a combination of public and private sector experience preferred (education may supplement experience).
• IAAI CFI certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire; NAFI-CFEI certification preferred.
• Must be bondable and eligible for licensing as a private investigator where required (some jurisdictions require written testing).
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to work in catastrophic environments (e.g., aftermath of natural disasters) for extended periods.
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in a work capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with commercial and industrial facilities.
• Experience working with law firms and insurance companies.
• Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field.

Pay

$75–$85 per hour.
