Fire Inspector
About The Role
The City of Bend Fire Department is accepting applications for one (1) regular, full-time Fire Inspector in the Fire Prevention Division of the Fire Department. This is an hourly, non-exempt (overtime eligible) position represented by the Bend Firefighters Association (BFA). The City may use this job posting to create an eligibility list for future hiring purposes. Please review the entire job posting, including the application requirements at the end.
What You'll Do
- Conduct inspections of commercial, industrial, and public occupancy buildings.
- Interpret and enforce adopted fire codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Provide fire and life safety education to businesses and the public.
- Investigate fires to determine cause and origin and prepare technical reports.
- Testify in court.
- Maintain accurate inspection, investigation, and enforcement records.
- Aid with emergency response, community risk reduction, and special projects.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will possess strong customer service skills, integrity, technical knowledge of fire and life safety codes, investigative aptitude, and the ability to work collaboratively with community members, business owners, contractors, and fire department personnel.
Minimum Qualifications (Required At Time Of Application)
- Possess a High School diploma or General Educational Development equivalency (GED).
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Meet or exceed minimum health and physical qualifications established by applicable standards.
- Possess a current Driver’s License and maintain an insurable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC Fire Inspector I (or equivalent)
- NFPA Fire Inspector I (or equivalent)
- Associate degree in Fire Science, Fire Prevention, or related field
Highly Desirable Qualifications
- ICC Fire Inspector I and III
- AAIF-T Certified
- NFPA Fire Investigator
- Fire Operations experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration, or related field
Additional Certifications And Training
- ICC Fire Plans Examiner
- DPSST/NFPA Fire Inspector 2
- NFPA Fire Instructor IDPSST/NFPA Fire & Life Safety Educator
- NFPA Youth Fire Intervention Specialist
At Completion of Probationary Year
- OR State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector Competency Recognition to Level II
- CPR Certification
