Fire Equipment Mechanic
About the role
This position works within the Kern County Fire Department.
Responsibilities
- Assessing the applicant's knowledge of the principles of gasoline and diesel engine mechanics as applied to maintenance and repair;
- Knowledge of smog control devices and diagnostic equipment;
- Repair and maintenance of both light and heavy motorized equipment;
- Must attain at least 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Requirements
- Three (3) years of experience repairing heavy motorized equipment, including one (1) year of experience with diesel engines;
- Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's License required to successfully pass the six (6) months probationary period.
Qualifications
Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
Benefits
Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
Schedule
This examination will establish an eligible list from which appointment(s) will be made at the Kern County Fire Department. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
