Fire Detection Service Technician

Responsibilities

• Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center, including a brief description of equipment/system malfunctions.
• Contact customer representatives to ascertain equipment/systems problems and diagnose issues.
• Perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products at customer sites.
• Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, and bulletins to repair equipment.
• Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers’ Fire & Life Safety systems, including SimplexGrinnell.
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals.
• Exhibit excellent customer service skills through consistent communication with district staff and customers.
• Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding via communication devices such as smartphones and laptops.
• Obtain customer signatures upon completion of service calls.
• Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
• Train or mentor others on the service team.
• Provide customers with high-level service to resolve building inefficiencies and service-related items.
• Act as a trusted advisor, delivering solutions and outcomes at the time of service.
• Troubleshoot and repair installed systems, including panel repair/reprogramming, device replacement/repair, resolving low-voltage circuit issues, and system testing.
• Organize and utilize technical resources, information, and support to ensure efficient task execution.
• Program fire alarm, security, and access control system panels; experience with CCTV, IT, and IP networks is a plus.
• Complete and submit all required documentation in a timely manner.
• Perform on-call and after-hours work as needed by customers.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to improve facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities.
• Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 4+ years of documented experience in low-voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals.
• Knowledge of test equipment, including multimeters, digital analyzers, and commissioning devices.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
• Able to work in unusual and difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high-lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including 10% overnight travel to meet customer requirements.
• Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
• Maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
• Adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
• Retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.

Pay

Hourly range: $24.33 - $33.41. Rate determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and market alignment.
