About the role
The Southaven Fire Department is currently accepting applications to hire Certified Firefighters who meet the following requirements.
Responsibilities
- Applicant at a minimum must be a Nationally Registered EMT Basic and/or must obtain a state EMT-B license through the Mississippi Health Department within 1 year of employment of offering.
- Applicant must obtain and maintain a MS EMS Driver License in order to drive an ambulance and/or other department vehicles under routine and emergency conditions.
- Applicant must be a Certified Firefighter and/or be able to gain reciprocity to the State of Mississippi.
- All candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- All candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment DOT physical examination, drug screen, and background check.
- Firefighter/Paramedic candidates will be required to take a cognitive skill test.
- All candidates will be required to successfully complete the Candidates Physical Ability Test (CPAT) for Firefighter.
Qualifications
- Minimum Standards Board in a timely manner.
- Applications are only accepted via the City of Southaven website or at the reception desk on the first floor.
- Do not submit certificates at this time.
- Firefighter/Paramedic candidates will be required to take a cognitive skill test.
- All candidates will be required to successfully complete the Candidates Physical Ability Test (CPAT) for Firefighter.
- All candidates will be given direction and time to prepare for the tests prior to the actual date.
- All candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- All candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment DOT physical examination, drug screen, and background check.

Pay
Base Salary: $57,571
Shift Differential: $1,919
EMT-Basic Stipend: $600
Hazardous Material Technician Stipend: $600
EMT-Paramedic Stipend: $8,000
Firefighter III Promotion (Out of Rank Driver): $1,919
