Fire Chief
About the role
The Town Manager directs the Fire Department, overseeing its activities and ensuring it meets the community's needs. The Fire Chief is responsible for the day-to-day operations, including fire protection, emergency medical services, rescue, hazardous materials, and disaster management.
Responsibilities
- Provides effective, professional leadership to the Fire Department.
- Develops, administers, and monitors the department budget.
- Maintains positive relations with civic, community, and neighborhood groups.
- Ensures necessary operational resources are in place.
- Responds to emergency calls and provides various services.
- Develops and implements mutual aid and automatic aid response agreements.
- Plans, organizes, directs, and controls emergency scene activities.
- Enforces fire prevention laws and conducts public fire safety education.
- Reviews and authorizes Fire Marshal code review and compliance activities.
- Represents the Town effectively in various settings.
- Manages personnel and enforces policies and procedures.
- Supervises and leads the Fire Department staff.
Requirements
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, fire science, or related field, plus ten (10) years of experience with five (5) years of increasing responsibility in a command and/or supervisory role in an organized fire department. A Master’s degree and/or Certified Fire Officer/Executive Fire Officer certification is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Arizona Driver’s License. National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Certification and Hazardous Materials First Responder Certification (40-hours) are preferred.

- Knowledge of fire administration, prevention, and suppression activities.
- High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Outlook.
