About the role

The South Placer Fire District is a tax-supported governmental agency that provides emergency and non-emergency services to the Community of the South Placer Fire District and other communities under local agreements and the California State Mutual Aid Plan. This work unit is responsible for fire station management, station shift supervision, crew supervision, and tasks associated with fire suppression, hazardous condition mitigation, emergency rescue, medical treatment, and pre/post-emergency activities.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency situations and perform tasks associated with fire suppression, hazardous condition mitigation, emergency rescue, and medical treatment.
  • Don all required protective clothing and implement directives from ranking employees.
  • Size up, report on, and formulate tactical mitigation strategies for emergencies.
  • Clearly communicate the incident situation status, resources status, and mitigation strategies.
  • Direct, supervise, and assist crews to carry out emergency mitigation strategies.
  • Assume command of incidents until relieved by a ranking employee.
  • Assign incident command positions of branch leader, division leader, or group supervisor, involving directing multiple resources.
  • Determine safety measures needed for each emergency operation and convey these measures clearly to those crews assigned.
  • Drive and operate emergency apparatus and other equipment associated with fire suppression, hazardous condition mitigation, emergency rescue, medical treatment, and district operations.
  • Operate tools associated with fire suppression, hazardous condition mitigation, emergency rescue, medical treatment, and district operations.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and apparatus and make emergency repairs.
  • Create openings in structures to allow access, egress, or facilitate fire suppression.
  • Move, cover, and otherwise protect personal property.
  • Walk or jog for extended distances carrying equipment and/or individuals.
  • Provide basic life support and assist with advanced life support.
  • Prepare individuals for transport to a medical treatment facility and transport patients while either driving the ambulance or providing appropriate treatment.
  • Triage multiple injury emergencies and manage medical treatment for such emergencies.
  • Remove patients/victims from difficult-to-access locations.
  • Perform rescues that involve moving waters or stagnant bodies of water.
  • Gather and load equipment onto the vehicle for return to the facility.

Requirements

  • A high school graduate or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 18 years of age.
  • A valid California Class A, B, or C driver's license with a Firefighter endorsement.
  • A valid Medical Examination Report (DL 51) form for a CDL or complete medical requirements for a non-commercial driver's license with a Firefighter endorsement per the department of motor vehicles.
  • A valid BLS/CPR card from American Heart or Red Cross.
  • A valid CA state Emergency Medical Technician certification or CA state Paramedic Card.
  • A Hazardous Materials First Responders Operational Certificate.
  • An ICS 200 Certificate.
  • A CSFM Rescue Systems 1 Certificate or CSFM Rope Rescue Awareness/Operations Certificate.
  • A CSFM Management 1 Certificate (obtained prior to 12/31/16) OR CSFM Company Officer 2A (Human Resource Management for Company Officers) Certificate.
  • A CSFM Command 1A Certificate (obtained prior to 12/31/16) OR CSFM Company Officer 2D (All-Risk Command Operations for Company Officers) Certificate.
  • A CSFM Certified Driver Operator 1A and 1B (old curriculum) OR CSFM Certified Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Pump Apparatus (new curriculum) Certificate.
  • To be a CSFM Certified Firefighter II.
  • To have three (3) years of experience as a full paid, full-time Firefighter or Engineer or Captain (with designations of EMT and or Paramedic).

Qualifications

  • Successfully complete the South Placer Fire Engineer Task Book within twelve (12) months of hire date.

Skills

  • Physical endurance and stamina.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression techniques and emergency response procedures.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to operate various firefighting and rescue equipment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations.

Pay

Base pay varies based on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include longevity pay, education incentives, and paramedic stipends.

Schedule

Employees work 24-hour shifts or as needed for emergencies or staffing call back.
