Fire and Rescue Technician I (Firefighter/EMT)

Selection Criteria

• Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.
• Have a valid Driver's License at time of application.
• Have any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED by date of hire.

Hiring Salary

Base salary is $62,187.36 per year.

Hiring Incentive Pay Policy

This position qualifies for a hiring bonus of $10,000, payable in 2 equal installments as funding permits.

Education Bonus

• 1.5% - Associates Degree
• 3% - Bachelors Degree
• 4.5% - Masters Degree
• 6% - Doctorate Degree

Military Experience Bonus

• 1.5% - Enlisted Ranks (E-4 through E-9)
• 3% - Officer and Warrant Officer Ranks (W-1 through W-4; O- 1 and higher)

Bonus Eligibility

All bonuses are subject to taxes.

Special Requirements

• Background checks, which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or fingerprinting may be required as posted in the job advertisement.
• Fire & Rescue Requirement: Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5-31-540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police; and a driving record transcript from the individual’s state Department of Motor Vehicles.
