About the role
Join our team in a role that directly supports the safety, health, and wellbeing of our campus community. As a Building Safety Inspector, you’ll play a vital part in maintaining safe, code-compliant facilities while collaborating with a wide network of partners.
Responsibilities
- Conduct annual inspections of assigned buildings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes, as well as recognized safety standards
- Partner with key stakeholders—including NC DOI/OSFM, Facilities, Housing, and the City of Raleigh—to promote a safe and compliant campus environment
- Respond to fire and medical incidents on University property, providing care at the NC EMT-B level when needed
- Assist with hazardous materials response to support campus safety
- Contribute to housing inspections as program needs evolve
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (one week at a time) to ensure continuous coverage
Qualifications
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in a Physical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science/Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Preferred: Experience in fire inspections, Hazardous Materials Operations. Plus certification, fire alarm and fire sprinkler system testing. Advanced knowledge of N.C. fire code, building code, NFPA standards.
- Required: EMT-B required at start date and must be maintained. Certified as a Firefighter II. Valid driver’s license is required at start date and must maintained.
