Fire and Life Safety Officer II (Health Facilities Construction)
About the role
California’s Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) works to ensure healthcare is available where Californians need it most. The Office of Statewide Hospital Planning and Development (OSHPD) serves as the building department for over 1,700 hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, focusing on facility construction, health workforce expansion, and vital health information. The position is based in Sacramento County, requires in‑office work, and is a permanent, full‑time role.
Responsibilities
- Observe construction of healthcare facilities 80%-100% of the time in the field, traveling to facilities in Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, San Benito, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Stanislaus, Tulare, and Tuolumne counties.
- Ensure work conforms substantially to plans and specifications approved by HCAI and complies with fire and life safety requirements of Title 24, California Code of Regulations (CCRs), OSHPD Policy Intent Notices, Code Application Notices, and other applicable codes, guidelines, policies, and reference materials.
- Work under general direction of the Regional Compliance Officer (RCO), Health Facilities Construction (HFC).
Requirements
- Subject to Form 700 Statement of Economic Interests filing requirements per the department’s Conflict of Interest Code; the statement is a public record.
Pay
Salary range: $10,521.00 – $13,173.00 per month. New to State candidates are hired at the minimum salary of the classification (or minimum of alternate range when applicable). Effective July 1, 2025, certain bargaining units may be subject to a 2%–4.62% salary reduction in exchange for Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) hours each month.
