Job Description

PRIDE Industries is a company that creates jobs for people with disabilities and provides solutions to clients. They are now hiring for the position of Fire Alarm System Technician under an AbilityOne contract. This position requires most work hours to be performed by employees with disabilities.

Typical Duties

  • Analyzes blueprints, schematics, drawings, and programming of fire alarm and/or other related electrical systems.
  • Inspects fire alarm equipment visually and replaces defective components; tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter, and makes needed repairs.
  • Collaborates with assigned Foreman and/or other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently.
  • Determines causes of electrical problems or failures in assigned systems to identify equipment and/or systems repair.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders.
  • Inspects electrical/fire alarm/mass notification systems and their components to evaluate condition, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventative maintenance.
  • Installs electrical system components as assigned (e.g., panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.) to enhance and/or upgrade system capabilities.
  • Maintains assigned tools and test equipment to ensure availability of equipment in the workplace.
  • Makes sure outside contractors’ work on electrical/fire alarm/mass notification systems is satisfactory and adheres to local/state/federal and district codes, regulations, and specifications.
  • Attends meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Documents activities and/or conveys information through written materials.
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure availability at job sites.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five years of work experience as a Fire Alarm System Technician in commercial, industrial, or large facility environments.
  • Knowledge of NFPA Standards and experience with Monaco Transmitter Systems, EST, Honeywell, and FAP’s.
  • Advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems.
  • Understanding of commercial fire alarm systems and ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding repair and maintenance for occupied spaces.
  • Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Organizational, problem-solving, and common-sense skills.
  • Customer service skills to respond to inquiries and requests and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Communication skills to provide procedural and factual information and follow instructions.
  • Flexibility to build effective working relationships with staff, customers, and others.
  • Ability to work safely and travel to various facilities, work independently, and as part of a team.

Education Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Technical/other training.

Certificates Required

  • Valid Driver's License.

Physical Requirements

  • Maneuvering to and around equipment.
  • Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
  • Lifting and moving equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Climbing ladders or step stools.
  • Monitoring gauges, controls, and/or computer systems.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment.
  • May require driving to and from worksite locations.
  • Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility.
  • Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
