Responsibilities
- Leads work teams by prioritizing, assigning, and coordinating daily work activities.
- Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and modification of fire alarm and fire life safety systems.
- Inspects fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contract requirements.
- Troubleshoots fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, and associated system components.
- Performs operational testing and functional verification of fire alarm systems following maintenance or repair activities.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical manuals.
- Uses electrical testing equipment, meters, hand tools, power tools, and manufacturer-specific diagnostic equipment.
- Maintains accurate inspection reports, maintenance records, testing documentation, and work orders.
- Collaborates with supervisors, customers, contractors, and other maintenance personnel to coordinate work activities.
- Assists in monitoring and training Fire Alarm System Mechanics and maintenance personnel; provides technical instruction and reviews completed work.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, company safety policies, and contract requirements.
- Recommends process improvements and equipment upgrades as appropriate.
- Maintains clean, safe, and organized work areas.
- Provides day-to-day work leadership by assigning, prioritizing, and coordinating the activities of assigned personnel.
- Assists with training, mentoring, and technical development of Fire Alarm System Mechanics and other maintenance staff.
- Provides technical guidance and quality oversight of work in progress and completed projects.
- Promotes compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and applicable fire protection codes and standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience inspecting, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial or industrial fire alarm systems.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Share Point.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required installation access credentials and security clearances for Fort Rucker, or other assigned government installations.
- Must have a valid Drivers License and clean driving record that meets BAC MVR requirements.
- Must possess an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training card or have the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment from an OSHA authorized provider.
Preferred Qualifications
- NICET Level II or Level III Fire Alarm Systems Certification.
- Experience supporting military, government, institutional, industrial, or large commercial facilities.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of NFPA 72, National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable building codes, and fire life safety regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
- Knowledge of fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, notification appliances, suppression interfaces, and emergency communication systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic fire alarm systems using appropriate testing equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to manage workflow, changing priorities, multiple projects, and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, contractors, and coworkers.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and applicable fire protection standards.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry.
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification preferred.
- Valid state Driver's License.
Safety and Environmental Requirements
- Regularly exposed to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, wind, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, and other conditions associated with commercial and industrial maintenance operations.
- Exposure to energized electrical systems, hazardous equipment, confined or elevated work areas, and other job-related hazards.
- Required to wear and properly use all designated personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all applicable safety policies, OSHA regulations, and company procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Using fine motor coordination, manual dexterity, and visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring and components.
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials and equipment.
- Climbing ladders and working at varying heights.
- Working in confined spaces and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Performing repetitive physical tasks associated with fire alarm systems installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
