Fire Alarm System Installation Technician

About the role
Join our Security and Fire Alarm Installation division as a Fire Alarm System Installation Technician. In this role, you will install and maintain state-of-the-art fire alarm systems, work with new technologies, and expand your skillset through our training and development programs. You’ll meet diverse customers daily, ensuring their fire protection needs are met while growing professionally in an employee-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Install and program control panels and all other equipment for fire alarm systems using building plans and electrical layouts.
- Mount sensors at appropriate locations, including drilling holes for cabling and accessing crawlspaces or attics for optimal wiring.
- Install wiring to connect system components while complying with safety standards and customer preferences.
- Demonstrate system operation to customers, address their questions or concerns, and ensure satisfaction.
- Inspect and test systems to verify compliance with safety requirements and proper functionality.
- Review installation manuals, building plans, and work orders to plan optimal component and wiring placement.
- Identify and repair malfunctions in system components or wiring, including ordering and installing replacement parts.
- Complete and submit documentation and reports for each installation or repair visit following company procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- High attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Top customer service skills with a customer-first mindset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically in fast-paced situations.
Qualifications
- Preferred: State certification in Fire Alarm & Detection Equipment or equivalent.
- Proficiency in alarm panels.
- Networking experience with security, CCTV systems, or other related technologies.
- Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Low voltage installation experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders, use lifts, and work at various heights.
- Able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Capable of working in confined spaces or outdoor environments.
- Occasional pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead.
- Must wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to drive company vehicles and transport equipment or materials.
- Ability to remain alert and focused while performing detailed or repetitive tasks.
Pay
Compensation ranges from $28.00 to $38.50 per hour, plus overtime incentives based on experience and productivity. Annual merit-based raises are provided.
