About the role
The Fire Alarm & Security Technician position installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs fire alarm and security systems, and other fire and life safety products with minimal supervision. Essential duties include programming and troubleshooting various fire alarm systems, repairing damaged components, and communicating professionally with customers and offsite monitoring companies.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of different Fire Alarm & Security manufacturers
- Use of required tools and test equipment such as multi-meter, megger, laptop to program, lifts, etc.
- Repair or replace fire alarm and security system components
- Troubleshoot to determine fault or faults, including ground faults
- Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner
- Track work orders using Field Service Lightning
- Complete documentation on work orders
- Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures
- Participate in weekly Toolbox talks
- Train service technician trainees on applicable aspects of fire protection
- Attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay updated on technology, codes, and standards changes
- Occasionally perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required
- NICET or state specific certification, preferred
- 3 Years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire Alarm, required
- 2 years of professional computer skills, preferred
- Effective reading, writing, and communication skills in English
- Table usage, portals, & IVR skills preferred but will train
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
- Comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements
- Able to travel 90% of the time, locally
Qualifications
- Education, Training, Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent, required. NICET or state specific certification, preferred.
- Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements: 3 Years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire Alarm, required. 2 years of professional computer skills, preferred.
- Communication Skills: Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.
- Systems And Software Skills: Table usage, portals, & IVR skills preferred but will train.
- Other Qualifications: Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required. Must be able to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement. Must be able to travel 90% of the time, locally.
