About the Role

The Fire Alarm & Security Technician installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs fire alarm and security systems, as well as other fire and life safety products, with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot fire alarm systems to determine faults, including ground faults.
• Repair or replace damaged fire alarm components such as FACP, power supply, and alarm-initiating devices.
• Work with different manufacturers' clean agent and high-pressure suppression systems.
• Use required tools and test equipment (e.g., multi-meter, megger, laptop for programming, lifts) to repair or replace fire alarm and suppression system components.
• Maintain comprehensive working knowledge of fire alarm codes and standards.
• Program and use software for a variety of fire alarm systems when removing or replacing components.
• Safely handle, remove, and replace explosive actuators such as squibs and gas cartridge actuators.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers, as well as offsite monitoring companies.
• Be punctual to work locations and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
• Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials needed, and time on job.
• Complete documentation on work orders.
• Understand and follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication Program, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in weekly Toolbox talks and know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
• Maintain company-provided vehicle in clean and well-maintained condition as per company policies.
• Participate in on-call status to handle emergency service requests as required.
• Attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
• Train service technician trainees on applicable aspects of fire protection.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• NICET or state-specific certification (preferred).
• 2 years of experience in the Fire Life Safety Industry, specifically in Fire Alarm (required).
• NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Certification (strongly preferred).
• Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
• 2 years of experience using business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, or similar (preferred).
• 2 years of professional computer skills (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required).
• Ability to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.
• Occasional travel up to 20%.
