Job Summary
The Fire Alarm Systems Service Technician - Level 1 is an entry-level position responsible for assisting higher-level technicians with the installation, inspection, servicing, and repair of fire alarm systems and other life safety devices. This role offers hands-on experience and training in the field, supporting skilled technicians in performing work that complies with NFPA codes, manufacturer specifications, and company standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist higher-level technicians in troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and inspecting a variety of fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
- Support senior technicians in working directly with customers to help resolve system issues and provide excellent service.
- Help complete the required reports and documentation in compliance with NFPA reporting and recordkeeping standards.
- Collaborate with the sales team by reporting deficiencies identified during inspections and service visits.
- Learn proper procedures for completing the NFPA-required documentation and inspection forms.
- Accurately maintain daily timesheets for labor tracking and job costing purposes.
- Demonstrate punctuality and dependability by consistently providing a full day's work.
- Report to and assist the assigned senior technician daily, supporting all tasks and learning the full scope of job responsibilities on-site.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must obtain NICET Level I Certification in Testing and Inspection within one year of entering this role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to follow through on assigned tasks.
- Team-oriented with a positive, collaborative attitude.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Willing to work overtime and adjust to changing schedules as needed.
- Ability to adapt to change with minimal notice in a dynamic field environment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily conducted offsite at customer facilities, which may include both clean and unclean environments, as well as varying temperature conditions (hot or cold).
- Must be able to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or more and safely maneuver cylinders weighing up to 300 pounds using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from heights using lifts and other equipment, as required.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, hard hats, and other safety apparel is mandatory at designated job sites.
- Company uniforms are provided and must be worn while on duty.
- Overnight travel may be required depending on job location and project needs.
