About the role
The Fire Alarm Designer – NICET III position at Advantage Interests Inc., an Eagle Fire owned company, is responsible for the design, layout, and development of commercial and industrial fire alarm systems in accordance with applicable NFPA codes, customer specifications, and local jurisdiction requirements. This position works closely with project managers, field personnel, engineers, and customers to develop code-compliant fire alarm system designs, shop drawings, battery calculations, riser diagrams, and technical documentation for new construction, retrofit, and industrial projects.
Responsibilities
- Design commercial and industrial fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards and project specifications
- Prepare fire alarm layouts, riser diagrams, wiring details, battery calculations, and shop drawings using AutoCAD
- Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop compliant system designs
- Cook up with project managers, field teams, AHJs, contractors, and customers throughout project execution
- Support system device selection and equipment layout for fire alarm and life safety systems
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements
- Afford permit submittals and design revisions as required
- Maintain organized project documentation and drawing revisions
- Participate in technical troubleshooting and problem-solving activities as needed
- Provide drafting and design support for fire & gas projects when applicable
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical degree or coursework related to drafting, engineering technology, or fire protection preferred
- Minimum 3+ years of fire alarm system design experience preferred
- Experience designing commercial or industrial fire alarm systems required
- NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems preferred
- NICET Level II candidates with strong design experience may also be considered
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of NFPA codes and fire alarm system design requirements
- Proficiency with AutoCAD required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
- Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting
