Fire Alarm Designer

About the role

The Fire Alarm Designer plays a crucial role in creating safe and efficient fire alarm systems for clients. This position requires a strong understanding of fire safety codes, engineering principles, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site surveys to assess fire risks and building layouts.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and codes.
• Prepare shop drawings/plans using AutoCAD that meet applicable codes and manufacturer requirements.
• Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop detailed schematics and plans for fire alarm installations.
• Prepare submittals and material lists.
• Communicate with local officials, engineers, architects, and customers.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints, submittals, specifications, manufacturers manuals, and codes to produce designs and submittals to be reviewed by local officials.
• Stay updated on advancements in fire alarm technology and regulations to ensure compliance and optimal system performance.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience with fire alarm/fire suppression system design.
• NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level II minimum preferred).
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
• Experience with Notifier, Siemens, Firelite, or Silent Knight fire alarm system design preferred.
• AutoCAD experience preferred.
• Possess professional business communications skills, both written and oral.
• Self-learner, self-motivated, dedicated, organized, and a team player.
• Good communication and organization skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and accomplish tasks in a timely and safe manner.

Qualifications

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
