Finishing Tech
Position Summary
Sandblasts, deburrs, polishes, grinds and washes the surface of stainless-steel parts to remove various imperfections and achieve the finish quality defined by work instructions and/or engineering drawings.
Essential Responsibilities
Level 1:
- At all times ensures safety is the top priority while performing any part of the job
- Follow verbal and written instructions given by Production Supervisor
- Safely operate hand tools (grinders, sanders, etc.) as needed to achieve required finish standard
- Operate sandblast booth
- Read and comprehend finishing notes on engineering drawings
- Obtain and maintain overhead crane certification
- Assist in mixing and adding the specified amounts of required abrasive mix to machine hopper or pit
- Load/unload carts and push carts to the next station
- Competent in producing a DA finish
- Competent in the Electropolish process
- Competent in meeting the requirements of a 6-101 finish standard
- Competent in meeting the requirements of a 6-102 finish standard
- Other duties as assigned
Level 2 (in addition to the above duties):
- Obtain and maintain forklift certification
- Grain, polish, grind and blend welds
- Competent in meeting the requirements for optical housings
- Operates the wash bay
- Competent in meeting the requirements of a 6-103 finish standard
Level 3 (in addition to the above duties):
- Perform QC inspections per the criteria defined by the associated weld quality and finishing standards
- Competent in meeting the requirements of the 6-104 finish standard
- Performs sandblast media sieve testing as required
- Identifies and repairs weld defects as needed to meet 6-103 and 6-104 finishing standards

Education and/or Experience
- Level 1: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 2: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level 3: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or at least three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate verbally with other employees.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, blue print, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving few variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must be able to pass yearly respiratory health exam required to operate sandblast booth.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Comments
All employees are required to wear eye and hearing protection at all times while in the manufacturing area. Protective clothing provided by the company is to be worn at all times such as coveralls or shop jacket unless approved by management. Either steel toed or composite shoes or boots must be worn at all times.

Summary
The Finishing Tech deburrs, polishes, grinds and finishes metal items that require rounded corners and or a grained finish using hand held grinders and buffers by performing the following duties.
Essential Responsibilities
- At all times safety is a top priority while performing any part of your job.
- Primary job is to perform necessary tasks to produce the required surface finish on parts and assemblies.
- Follow instructions given by Supervisor.
- Understands and operates machines at production level with Supervision.
- Reads job blueprints or router to determine finish requirements when needed.
- Works jobs according to the due dates provided on the routers unless otherwise instructed by Supervisor.
- Removes burrs, sharp edges and imperfections to attain finish requirement.
- Always wear grinding shield while grinding, gloves are also recommended.
- Performs minor machine maintenance on machines.
- Stays in work area and works well with others.
- Sets up machines, stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished work pieces to next work center.
- Properly use barcode system to reflect hours charged to job.
- Contact Supervisor or Weld Lead if there is a problem with job or equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need To Be Successful
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months of related experience.

- The ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to contribute to the team’s performance.
- Your confidence with measurements, tolerances, and the use of both imperial measurement and metric system.
