Responsibilities
- Provide daily supervision of employees in the Finishing End.
- Enforce rotation of employees in Finishing Attendant positions.
- Participate in the creation of training for Finishing End employees and educate them on processes and their purpose.
- Provide ongoing training and coaching for current and new Finishing End employees.
- Document employee performance issues and administer discipline.
- Participate in Union employee grievance procedures.
- Monitor processes affecting timeliness and product quality.
- Oversee coil staging and determine loading priorities for cars.
- Ensure coils are properly identified and verify correct quantities are loaded.
- Confirm proper parameters are set during heath/batch changes.
- Assist maintenance with troubleshooting and repairs.
- Make decisions regarding quality issues, including whether to scrap or rework.
- Schedule and verify rework is addressed within the shift it was identified.
- Take or assign samples to the lab.
- Complete required reports and communicate operational issues to the General Manager and Roller.
- Facilitate effective communication between the Mill and Finishing End.
- Share information with other Finishing End Supervisors at shift changes.
- Create and send reports as needed.
- Fill in for Shift Supervisor and Shipping Supervisor when necessary.
- Assist the Rod Mill General Supervisor and General Manager as directed.
- Perform fire watch duties when scheduled.
- Audit and update Safe Job Procedures (SJPs) and verify compliance with all SJPs and safety processes.
- Enforce SSC Work Rules and Policies consistently.
- Champion and participate in ECO, QMS, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Participate in training from HR, Rod Manager, Lab, Roller, and other supervisors.
- Take initiative to learn more about Rod Mill and Shipping processes.
- Comply with and enforce all SSC Safety rules.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- General knowledge of the entire SSC Rod Mill process.
- Extensive understanding of Sterling Steel’s Rod Mill Finishing End and Shipping processes.
- Familiarity with LPCS (Leggett & Platt Continuous Improvement System).
- Basic Outlook skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn and retain new information.
- Previous leadership experience is helpful.
Physical Demands
- Mobility to move throughout the Rod Mill, including over uneven surfaces, up/down stairs, and ladders.
- Strength and stamina to remain on feet for the majority of 12-hour shifts.
- Vision to monitor production in person and on monitors.
- Dexterity to utilize computers and other office machinery.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
