About the role

Briefs Finance is building tools and content to help people build wealth, from a top‑five financial podcast and free daily Market Briefs newsletter to AI‑powered research platforms. As a Financial Writer you will produce the market news and newsletter sections that bring millions of readers to the site each month, working in‑office in downtown Detroit.

Responsibilities

• Write and edit market news on stocks, the economy, the Federal Reserve, earnings, and cryptocurrency for briefs.co.
• Draft sections of the daily Market Briefs newsletter and cover the full newsletter when the Senior Financial Editor is out.
• Help the desk hit its daily checkpoints and publish content each weekday (newsletter goes out at 7:30 am ET).
• Produce long‑form pieces, advertorials, and fast follow‑ups when a story gains traction.
• Use AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to research faster, draft cleaner, and self‑check work while ensuring the final copy sounds human‑written.
• Meet deadlines, take edits once, and communicate proactively if a deadline is at risk.

Requirements

• Genuine interest in the markets and ability to learn quickly.
• Background in finance is a real advantage; familiarity with basic concepts such as inflation is expected.
• Two or more years of experience writing about markets, business, or economics (stronger candidates with less experience are welcome if their clips are excellent).
• Ability to write financial topics in plain English that a non‑expert can understand.
• Regular use of AI writing/research tools and honesty about their strengths and limits.
• Skill at spotting AI‑sounding prose and knowing that model confidence ≠ correctness.
• Fast and careful work ethic; volume does not lead to sloppiness.
• Capable of taking an edit and applying it only once.
• Habit of writing down deadlines, commitments, and lessons learned; raising concerns before a deadline slips.

Qualifications (nice‑to‑have)

• Series 65 or similar credential (company will sponsor).
• Published bylines at a finance outlet.
• Experience with GA4, Ahrefs, or an email platform such as Customer.io.

• Clear, story‑like communication of complex topics.
• Deadline‑driven workflow and proactive communication.
• Ability to adapt to varied content lengths (short news, long‑form, advertorials).
