If you have a passion for solving complex challenges, join our dynamic FSO team. EY’s FSO tax practice provides comprehensive, specialized tax assistance tailored to the asset management industry. You will work with tax professionals experienced in hedge fund, private equity fund, and mutual fund taxation, including fund structuring, tax minimization planning, advisory, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Manage and implement tax compliance strategies and reporting support for clients.
- Streamline and optimize compliance and reporting processes to align with business strategy, increase efficiency, and promote transparency.
- Develop governance, risk, and compliance frameworks and shape operating models to align with tax regulations and business objectives.
- Lead tax compliance and advisory engagements for hedge fund, private equity, and mutual fund clients, addressing complex federal, international, state, and local tax issues.
- Review securities analyses, make tax adjustments, and oversee the production of K-1s and partnership returns.
- Evaluate partnership agreements and private placement memorandums for tax implications.
- Effectively manage and deliver processes, solutions, or projects with a focus on quality and risk management.
- Drive continuous process improvement and identify innovative solutions through research and analysis.
- Lead workstream delivery, track project status, and manage engagement economics.
- Participate in client working sessions and lead workstreams from planning through closure.
- Develop solutions to complex problems and recommend changes to policies and procedures.
- Guide others by applying expertise and interpreting internal/external issues to recommend quality solutions.
- Meet performance objectives related to client service, quality, risk management, sales, business growth, and teaming.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (4-year degree) required.
- Minimum 4–6 years of relevant experience.
- Licensed attorney or CPA.
- Familiarity with the financial services industry, particularly managed investment vehicles.
- Broad exposure to federal income taxation and state and local tax.
- Demonstrated expertise in tax compliance and reporting requirements.
- Strong awareness of finance compliance and regulation.
- Understanding of global compliance requirements and ability to assess tax legislation impact.
- Experience with tax reform calculations and proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
- Experience with tax technology solutions and understanding of tax accounting and provisions.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and standards.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate applications and tools.
- Complex problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to drive outcomes and demonstrate learning agility.
Skills
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
- Solid technical knowledge, including reviewing partnership book/tax allocations involving incentive fee reallocations, side pockets, partnership interest transfers, and fill-up/down allocations.
- Ability to teach or assist with firm in-house training programs.
- Analyze trading reports for tax character and book-to-tax differences, including wash sales, constructive sales, straddles, and other securities-related issues.
- Build impactful relationships with new and existing clients and maintain relationships with firm leadership.
- Identify key tax technical issues and raise appropriate questions before work submission for review.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading professional employees or supervising others to deliver complex technical initiatives.
- Ability to manage engagement economics and resource planning.
- Experience participating in RFP responses and identifying opportunities for additional services.
- Experience with hybrid collaboration and global teams.

Pay
The base salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $116,200 to $212,900. For New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento), the range is $139,400 to $242,000. Individual salaries are determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
