About the role

The Financial Reporting Analyst I prepares and supports the filing of quarterly and annual GAAP and statutory-basis financial statements, MD&A, and related exhibits. This position is responsible for performing U.S. statutory-basis accounting for certain balances, including review of supporting analysis and preparing journal entries and analysis as needed to adjust from GAAP to STAT reporting. This role may also assist in the preparation and coordination of annual/quarterly financial and regulatory audits.

This position is eligible to work remotely, hybrid, or onsite in accordance with our Telecommuting Policy. Applicants must reside in Kansas or Missouri or be willing to relocate as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, MD&A, and related exhibits, including basic variance analysis and key performance indicators.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual statement filings and related external reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to and participate in preparing annual/quarterly financial statement audit requirements.
  • Monitor financial performance and assist in identifying trends or potential risks.
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional teams to gather and analyze financial data for reporting purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging financial practices, and regulatory changes.

Requirements

  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (STAT).
  • Specialized knowledge of costing, line of business, and governmental accounting for certain aspects of this role.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording financial transactions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
  • 0-3 years of relevant experience in financial accounting or a related field.

Physical Requirements

  • Normal office environment.
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.

Pay

$64,400–80,500 annually

Exempt Grade 14
