About the role
Provides fiscal and budgetary services to an assigned unit. Manages assigned departmental accounts and provides ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions. Assures proper accounting for state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts as assigned. Provides analysis of gross expenditures and makes recommendations for maintaining fiscal stability. Assists in developing and administering budgets.
Responsibilities
- Manages assigned departmental accounts and provides ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions.
- Assures proper accounting for state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts as assigned.
- Provides analysis of gross expenditures and makes recommendations for maintaining fiscal stability.
- Affirms compliance with financial policy and procedure.
- Develops and provides financial statements and reports to upper management on regular or requested basis.
- Makes decisions regarding the use of financial resources.
- Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and appropriate University personnel and coordinates integration with University accounting system.
- May prepare and/or supervise processing of departmental personnel action forms and as well as assume some payroll duties.
- Acts as liaison with appropriate University financial staff.
- Interacts with vendors and complies with UAB bid policy and procedures.
- Leads and facilitates Principal Investigator (PI) report meetings for assigned groups and effectively communicates financial information to diverse stakeholders.
- Financial management for the Industry Clinical Trials portfolio of assigned divisions (Reconciliation, Bill-Pay, invoices, etc.).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

- Proactive self-starter with strong organizational and time-management skills, capable of effectively prioritizing responsibilities and meeting deadlines.
- Capable of working independently while also contributing positively within a collaborative team setting.
- Strong presentation and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to think critically and respond confidently in real-time.
Skills
- Knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures specific to accounting, financial analysis and budgetary processes.
