Financial Institutions Examiner I
NDBF is seeking a knowledgeable, motivated, and skilled Financial Institutions Examiner I to join our Financial Institutions Examiner Team. This position is within the Financial Institutions Division, which oversees banks, credit unions, trust companies, and consumer financial services institutions. An examiner typically progresses through the Examiner I, Examiner II (Junior), and Examiner III (Senior) levels, with abundant opportunities for professional growth and collective learning in a flexible, supportive, and collaborative work environment.
About the role
Financial Institution Examiners conduct, supervise, and direct examinations of Nebraska state-chartered financial institutions to determine adherence to safe and sound practices, compliance with laws, regulations, and guidance documents, the adequacy of internal controls/procedures, financial adequacy, and the general performance of management. Other duties may be assigned within the scope of the classification.
Responsibilities
- Conduct examinations of state-chartered financial institutions.
- Supervise and direct examinations to assess safe and sound practices.
- Evaluate adherence to laws, regulations, and guidance documents.
- Assess the adequacy of internal controls and procedures.
- Review financial adequacy and management performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting, computer science/FinTech, or economics, with a minimum of six semester hours in accounting.
- A degree in a related field with applicable professional or technical experience may be considered, even without accounting hours.
- Day and overnight travel is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, evidence of vehicle insurance, and reliable personal transportation, or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
- Must pass a criminal background check and motor vehicle records check.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a financial or regulatory internship.
- CSBS Certification of Certified Examiner-In-Charge or NASCUS Certification of Certified State Credit Union Examiner.
- Specialized education or experience in lending, loan policy development, loan review, or bank/credit union operations.
Skills
- Knowledge of NDBF’s vision, mission, goals, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of financial institution laws, regulations, and examination procedures.
- Working knowledge of basic financial and accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial institution accounting and financial data, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to deal effectively with personnel and officials of regulated financial institutions, regulatory authorities, and the general public.
- Ability to contribute in a team setting with examiners and financial institution employees.
- Proficiency in video meeting, word processing/spreadsheet software, and web-based computer applications.
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
- High standards of ethical conduct and alignment of behavior with departmental needs, priorities, and goals.
- Ability to travel, including overnight stays.

Pay
$26.442 per hour
Schedule
Monday–Friday; 40 hours/week. Flexibility allowed with approval. Employee must be available during business hours.
