About the Role

The Senior Credit Officer is responsible for the day-to-day credit risk management of a portfolio of clients, focusing on financial sponsors, private equity, and securitizations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct credit assessments of counterparties and underlying assets being traded or financed, including detailed analysis of historical performance and key risk factors.
  • Provide approvals or recommendations for proposed credit limits and tenors, documenting final decisions.
  • Validate Obligor Risk Ratings, Basel II parameters (LGDs), and other financial metrics.
  • Monitor the credit quality of the portfolio, including early detection of deteriorating credits and participation in quarterly watch list reviews.
  • Track credit and market trends across individual asset classes.
  • Assist the Portfolio Management and Governance team in preparing reports for RISQ management and regulators.
  • Contribute to the bank’s credit policy guidelines and overall risk appetite.
  • Participate in setting the global risk appetite for financing initiatives.
  • Assess new business initiatives, including white papers, New Product Committees, and business rules.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in financial services, with a focus on Financial Sponsors (Private Equity/Private Credit) and securitizations.
  • Broad knowledge of risks impacting Financial Sponsors and Private Equity, with specific expertise in credit risk.
  • Strong understanding of the US market and regulatory practices.
  • Proven analytical and judgment skills, with the ability to understand complex transactions and processes.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and capacity to work autonomously.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously.
  • Strong collaboration skills across risk, business lines, legal, and compliance teams.
  • Results-focused, responsive, and strategic in decision-making and risk assessment.
  • Excellent English writing skills; working knowledge of French is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and effectively manage priorities.
  • Promoter of innovation, creativity, and business insight.

About the Team

The Risk Management Department at Societe Generale contributes to the sustainable growth of the group by independently analyzing, assessing, managing, and monitoring risk-taking activities. The department oversees enterprise, strategic, credit, market, liquidity, operational, model, and other risks for corporate and investment banking. RISQ/CIB specifically manages credit risk for corporates, financial institutions, sovereign counterparties, and country risk, while setting credit policies and exposure limits in collaboration with business lines and management.
