About the role
The City of Williston, North Dakota is seeking an accomplished and collaborative Finance Director to serve as its Chief Financial Officer and principal financial advisor to executive leadership and the City Commission. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a highly respected finance department, oversee the City's financial operations, and help guide the long-term fiscal sustainability of one of the nation's fastest-growing and most forward-thinking communities.
Reporting directly to the City Administrator, the Finance Director oversees budgeting, accounting, treasury management, investments, debt administration, purchasing, financial reporting, utility billing, and statutory City Auditor responsibilities. The successful candidate will lead long-range financial planning, advise organizational leadership on fiscal policy and strategy, and continue advancing innovation, technology, and operational excellence throughout the department.
Responsibilities
- Lead the finance department and serve as the principal financial advisor to executive leadership and the City Commission.
- Oversee budgeting, accounting, treasury management, investments, debt administration, purchasing, financial reporting, utility billing, and statutory City Auditor responsibilities.
- Lead long-range financial planning and advise on fiscal policy and strategy.
- Advance innovation, technology, and operational excellence within the finance department.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to executive leadership and elected officials.
- Mentor staff and foster continuous improvement to build a strong financial organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Seven (7) years of progressively responsible governmental finance, accounting, budgeting, auditing, or public administration experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory or executive management role.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid North Dakota driver's license.
- Must be bondable.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $145,000–$165,000 annually, depending on qualifications.
