About the role
This position leads and develops teams supporting financial crimes compliance operations. Responsibilities include overseeing investigative teams, driving quality and productivity standards, managing operational performance, and ensuring successful execution of compliance-related initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, extensive financial crimes expertise, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and support investigators and senior investigators across multiple compliance projects.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, and day-to-day guidance to drive individual and team success.
- Monitor team productivity, attendance, workload distribution, case aging, and resolution timelines.
- Facilitate calibration sessions, team meetings, and performance discussions to address challenges and improve results.
- Assign and manage investigative cases through case management systems while balancing team workloads.
- Review escalated investigations and specialty cases prior to final submission.
- Deliver quality assurance feedback and individualized coaching based on performance and quality outcomes.
- Conduct case reviews and maintain established case closure expectations.
- Analyze quality control findings, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and review project deliverables, reporting, performance metrics, and status updates.
- Foster a positive team environment while promoting employee engagement and staff development.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Financial Services, Criminal Justice, Business, Law Enforcement, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of supervisory, leadership, or people management experience.
- 5+ years of experience in AML, Financial Crimes, Risk Management, Compliance, Financial Investigations, or related disciplines.
- Strong understanding of BSA/AML regulations, KYC requirements, transaction monitoring, and financial crimes typologies.
- Experience evaluating alerts, making escalation decisions, and recommending Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) filings.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, investigative, research, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written communication and case documentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify unusual patterns, red flags, and anomalies within large volumes of transactional data.
- Experience detecting suspicious activity related to cash-intensive businesses, peer-to-peer payments, debit and credit card transactions, wire transfers, and consumer banking activity.
- Ability to distinguish normal customer behavior from potentially suspicious financial activity.
- Certifications such as CAMS, CFE, or similar credentials preferred.
- Experience working in operationally focused, shared services, or high-volume compliance environments preferred.
- Proven ability to lead teams of varying size and complexity while consistently maintaining quality standards and service level expectations preferred.
